Stephens and Makris Compete at ITA Fall Regionals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Capital University women's tennis team competed at the ITA Fall Central Regional Championships this weekend, with freshmen Scarlett Stephens and Stephanie Makris representing the program on the campus of Washington University of St. Louis.

Both Stephens and Makris finished with 1-1 records in singles play before weather shortened the event for both players.

Stephens opened up with a win over Maddy Williams of Transylvania in the Round of 128 to advance in the main bracket. Stephens defeated Williams 6-1, 6-0.

Stephens then fell in her Round of 64 match, playing against Eleanor Archer of Washington University of St. Louis. Archer won the match by 6-3, 6-1 scores.

Makris opened up her Round of 128 match with a loss to Prachi Shah of Case Western Reserve, falling 6-1, 6-2.

Makris then responded well in the Round of 32 consolation bracket where she defeated Jada Barlow of Westminster of Missouri 8-1 in the single set match-up.

After the two matches, the event cancelled the remainder of the consolation brackets due to weather in the area.
