Take the 360 Tour of Bernlohr Stadium!
Capital Football, Men's and Women's Soccer, and Men's and Women's Lacrosse call Bernlohr Stadium their home field. Student-athletes compete on a state-of-the-art artificial surface called Field Turf, which was re-installed in 2011. THe playing surface was again replaced in the summer of 2023 with Hellas turf. Hellas supplies the turf for state-of-the-art facilities around the country including the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium and the Houston Texans' NRG Park among many others. The Comets play in front of fans, friends, family and supporters that fill stands with a 3,000-seat capacity. Within a brick grandstand are two private observation decks, a hospitality suite, two coach boxes, and a press box.
The stadium includes a three-lane track around the field perimeter for track & field practice as well as fitness and recreation endeavors. In the fall of 2012, Capital debuted a 16x12-foot, high-definition LCD video board in the southeast corner of the stadium funded by the family of the late Dick Hartmann '56. The video board, powered by Daktronics, stands on a 10-foot brick arch and is capable of displaying motion graphics, live and recorded video, and a digital scoreboard.
Prior to the 2015 season, Capital installed state-of-the-art LED lights around Bernlohr Stadium through its partnership with Musco Sports Lighting. The addition of lights around the stadium allows for extended playing and practice times for teams that use the playing surface. An enhanced directional sound system and wireless microphones were installed to serve fans and players while inside the press box and suites internal sound systems were added to improve the gameday experience.
Through the generosity of Capital alumnus Wells Purmort '58 the field surface will be well-maintained for many years to come. In 2016, Mr. Purmort made a contribution of $1 million to care for or replace the turf and serve other stadium needs. For his kindness, the field surface was named in his honor. From the time of his gift until the summer of 2023, the field was known as Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium. In June of 2023, the facility returned to the name of Bernlohr Stadium.
