Capital Cheer wants to connect with its alumni! Those that were part of the CU cheer team while a student, please help us build our alumni group by contacting Coach Sydney Shadburn and include your name, current address, e-mail, phone number and years you participated with Capital Cheer!
The Capital University cheerleaders are an integral part of CU Spirit, the University, and the community. Capital cheerleaders take pride in promoting school spirit, encouraging positive crowd participation at CU events. CU Cheerleaders are excellent ambassadors for the University and participate in off-campus performances and events. All squad members are expected to be honest, respectful, have a strong work ethic, and uphold the Capital University brand.

Tryout Dates for 2025-26 Season
Tryouts for the 2025-2026 have concluded at this time. Please email Coach Sydney Shadburn if you are interested in trying out for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. In your email, please include your name, class (i.e.: incoming freshman, sophomore, etc.), and email address. More information will be forthcoming.
Program Requirements
All squad members are required to attend all practices during the Fall and Spring semesters, and:
- All home and select away football games
- All men's and women's home basketball games and select away games
- Games and practices held during semester breaks, spring break, and University scheduled and national holidays
- Ohio Athletic Conference tournaments
- Special appearances (on and off-campus)
- Various athletic, community service, and fundraising events

Stunting & Tumbling
Stunting and tumbling skills are very important to the CU cheerleading program. Stunting experience is not required to try out or make the squad, but it is highly encouraged. All current and future squad members are required to have a back handspring (standing, running/tumbling) and to work on mastering a back tuck (standing or running).
