The Capital Center Fieldhouse

(located inside of The Capital Center)

The Fieldhouse is home to the men's and women's indoor track & field teams and serves as the main recreation grounds for Capital University students, staff and faculty.

With a six-lane padded track, four multi-use courts, two suspended batting cages, and curtains to give the space the ability to be sectioned off in a variety of designs, it is perfect for Capital’s varsity teams to use for its practices and training. The space is also used by intramural and club sports for competition and training.

The indoor track and fieldhouse surface underwent a massive renovation during the summer of 2026 in which the entire surface was replaced. Additionally, the sound system in the fieldhouse was replaced and an LED video board was installed on the south wall. The new surface was installed by Beynon Sports Surfaces, a company known for some of the nation's premier collegiate tracks, including those at The Ohio State University and University of Oregon. The new surface, Beynon's BSS 2000 RE system, will be championship read and will feature an eight-lane straightaway which will meet both OAC and NCAA standards for championship events. The surface will feature a six-lane oval, an eight-lane straightaway, two jump pits, two pole vault runways and four Comet-branded multi-use courts in the middle of the oval.

Locker rooms for team and general use are located in the corridor of the Fieldhouse, as are storage areas for Capital teams and Facilities. Toward the north wall is the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR), a room equipped with mirrors, yoga, fencing, various workout equipment, and an internal audio system for class and recreational use.

Bench and portable bleacher seating is available on the ground floor of the field house with additional bench seating available on the second floor of the building.

Capital has housed multiple high-level events in the Fieldhouse over the course of time including political rallies, conference and national championships, youth sport camps, and Capital commencement ceremonies. In 2011, Capital was chosen to host the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in this facility. Prior to the 2016 general election, President Barack Obama spoke to a capacity crowd in an endorsement event covered by national and local media.
