Track and Field Finish Strong at OAC Championships

BEREA, Ohio – On the heels of five All-OAC finishes, the Capital University track and field team put forth a high quality showing at the OAC Indoor Championships. 

On the women's side, Capital placed fifth overall with 48 points and the men placed seventh with 30.5 points. Mount Union won both the men's and women's team titles. Notably in the women's standings, Capital placed nine points above Otterbein in the team standings, thus winning the Oar for indoor track in the rivalry series. 

Earning All-OAC honors for Capital this weekend were Daniel McCormack, the men's 4x200 meter relay, Alexa Poling, Larissa Agbor-Nkongho, and the women's 4x200 meter relay. 

Additionally, the Comets coaching staff earned the Women's Coaching Staff of the Year honor. Capital's coaching staff includes head coach BT Pham, associate head coach Breanna Clayton, and assistant coaches De'Von Blackwell (throws), Chadd Pierce (pole vault) and DaJuan Seward (jumps). 

Head coach BT Pham had nothing but good things to say about the team's performance today, "I'm tremendously proud of our improvement from last year. I'm excited for the future of our program and I can't wait to see what we can do in the outdoor season."

Day Two Recap:
MEN
4x200m Relay: The foursome of Daniel McCormack, Dom Glenn, Ben Char, and Ishmael Young placed third for an All-OAC finish. The quartet's time of 1:31.05 marked the second fastest 4x200 meter relay on an indoor track in Capital history. They are just .11 seconds off the school record set in 2006. 

4x400m Relay: The quartet of Ishmael Young, Dom Glenn, Kaden Lowe and Daniel McCormack placed fourth in the 4x400 meter relay, edging out the Otterbein unit by one second. Capital's group clocked in a time of 3:28.70 that sits them ninth all time in Cap history. 

55m Dash: A day after breaking the school record in the 55 meter dash, Dom Glenn put forth the fifth fastest time of the day in a fashion of 6.49 seconds. In the loaded field of competition, Glenn was less than a tenth of a second off the top spot. 

55m Hurdles: Kelly Wilson II placed seventh in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.00 seconds. 

High Jump: Andy Fullmer earned 1.5 team points with a jump of 1.84 meters. Both he and Marietta's Addison Painter tied to share seventh place. Josh Kucker cleared the bar at 1.79 meters to place 10th. 

Shot Put: Marvin Jean-Denis placed 10th with a heave of 13.85 meters. 

1,000m Run: Donovan Slattery placed 15th with a time of 2:40.95 in the 1K. 

WOMEN
4x200m Relay: The quartet of Maria Da Cunha, Cece Samuels, Hanna Bauer, and Larissa Agbor-Nkongho helped Capital to a second place finish and All-OAC honors. The time of 1:47.42 is the new 10th fastest time in program history. 

200m Dash: Both Larissa Agbor-Nkongho and Cece Samuels finished in scoring position in the 200 meter dash, with Agbor-Nkongho finishing third for All-OAC honors and Samuels finishing in fifth. Agbor-Nkongho's time clocked in at 25.95 seconds, while Samuels finished in 26.59 seconds. 

55m Dash: Both Samuels and Agbor-Nkongho delivered in the 55 meter dash as both improved their prelim times. Samuels clocked in at 7.323 seconds, good for fourth overall and moved them from fourth to third on the program top-10 list. Agbor-Nkongho placed sixth overall with a time of 7.36 seconds, good to move her from fifth into a tie for fourth all-time in the event. 

High Jump: Kennedi Hendricks cleared the bar at 1.52 meters, placing fifth overall. The clearance was Hendricks' new PR and she now adds her name to a five-way tie for the seventh best high jump in program history. 

4x400m Relay: The quartet of Erniesha Guerrier, Hanna Bauer, Claire Larger and Maria Da Cunha ran to a sixth place finish in a time of 4:22.66. 

Shot Put: Lily Purdon tossed her way into scoring position, placing eighth with a throw of 11.26 meters. The throw was a PR by almost a full meter. Grace Heckenlively placed 17th with a toss of 10.74 meters and Alexa Poling was 23rd with a throw of 10.20 meters. 

1,000m Run: Elizabeth Mak placed in scoring position in sixth place overall with a time of 3:12.01. The time moves her from eighth on the top-10 list up to fifth. Alexa Daley also competed in the event, placing ninth with a time of 3:17.03. 

Day One Recap:
MEN
Long Jump - Daniel McCormack leaped his way onto the podium, placing third overall with a new PR jump of 6.84 meters. The jump was good enough to move him from  seventh on the program all-time list up to fourth. The jump was a near quarter of meter improvement on his previous best of 6.60 meters. The All-OAC honor for McCormack is also his second in the long jump as he finished third in the Outdoor OAC Championships last season. Freshman Dylan Dowell was just behind McCormack with a fifth place finish, earning four team points. His leap of 6.78 meters was good to move him from 10th on the all-time list up to sixth as his previous best was 6.47 meters. Daniel Hiser (6.40 meters) and Andy Fullmer (6.11 meters) also competed in the event for Cap. 

Pole Vault: Wesley Triplett picked up a team point, placing eighth overall in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.06 meters. 

55m Hurdles: Kelly Wilson II qualified for the finals in eighth place after clocking in at 7.98 seconds in the prelims. The time was a .03 second PR for Wilson and keeps him in fifth all-time in program history. 

55m Dash: Dom Glenn set a new school record with a prelim time of 6.44 seconds. The race was Glenn's first time in the 55 meter dash as Capital regularly competes in the 60 meter sprint. His time of 6.44 seconds was the second fastest in the prelims and qualified him for the finals tomorrow. Ishmael Young also competed in the event, finishing 13th in a time of 6.61 seconds. That time is good for fifth all-time in the event. Daniel Hiser also raced, placing 24th in 6.73 seconds. That time puts him in a four-way tie for the 11th best time in program history. With Glenn and Young adding their name higher up the list, Hiser will have to wait to add his name to the official top-10 list. 

Distance Medley Relay: The quartet of Zach Glotzbecker, Xavier Jennings, Nick Stuck and Donovan Slattery picked up one team point with an eighth place finish in the DMR. Their time of 11:00.06 is the fifth fastest distance medley relay in program history. 

WOMEN
Weight Throw: Alexa Poling placed second overall to earn All-OAC accolades – the first indoor All-Conference award on the women's side since Emily Hilt in 2020. Poling's furthest throw of the day marked 15.66 meters. Teammate Lily Purdon also competed in the event, placing 17th with a toss of 12.57 meters – a new PR.  

55m Dash: Cece Samuels and Larissa Agbor-Nkongho both booked a spot in the finals of the 55 meter dash tomorrow as Samuels placed fifth in prelims and Agbor-Nkongho came in eighth. Samuels clocked in a time of 7.37 seconds, good for the fourth fastest 55 meter dash in program history. Agbor-Nkongho's time of 7.43 seconds marks the new fifth fastest time in Capital's history. 
Distance Medley Relay: Alexa Daley, Erniesha Guerrier, Olivia Humes and Elizabeth Mak clocked in a time of 14:01.58 to placed seventh overall, giving the Comets two team points. 

Long Jump: Claire Larger won her flight, but finished 10th overall with a new PR of 4.93 meters. 

400m Dash: Maria Da Cunha raced in the 400, placing 12th overall in a time of 1:03.88. 

UP NEXT
The Comets will send a select group of athletes to a to be determined last chance meet next weekend looking to put forth times good enough to qualify for Nationals. Information on the decided meet will be posted to athletics.capital.edu when it is decided.
