Track & Field Sees Five Selected as Outdoor All-Region

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Capital University track and field program continued a prosperous 2025-26 season by seeing five student-athletes named to the USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region team earlier this week.

Earning outdoor All-Region honors for the 2026 season were seniors Maria Da Cunha and Chip Smith and freshmen Mershaud Parker, Demetre Wheeler and Neko Henry. Smith, Parker, Wheeler and Henry were also named All-Region during the indoor season this year.

Smith, Parker, Wheeler and Henry were recognized as a quartet in the 4x400-meter relay, while Da Cunha earned her recognition in the 400-meter hurdles. Notably this outdoor season, Da Cunha set a new school record in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.48 and the 4x400 relay team set a new program record time in 3:16.76.

According to the USTFCCCA website, the top-8 individuals in each event from each region on the year-end Athletic.net Descending Order Lists earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-8 relay teams.
