BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team competed late into the night last night at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet, hosted by Baldwin Wallace. There, the Comets set two new school records and performed well in all events in which they competed in.
Last night's meet concluded the season for much of the team and a small group may be looking at potential last chance meets, but arrangements have not yet been made. Any further details will be posted to athletics.capital.edu should they come about.
Below is a summary of last night's performances.
MEN
100-meter dash:
Cheik Souare dashed into 11th place with a time of 10.95 seconds.
Leighton Kordack finished 27th with a time of 11.20 seconds.
200-meter dash: Mershaud Parked finished eighth in the 200 with a time of 22.50 seconds.
Demetre Wheeler placed 23rd in 22.95 seconds and
Trevor Estep came across in 25.67 seconds.
400-meter dash:
Neko Henry placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 48.80 seconds. Estep finished in 57.56 seconds.
800-meter run:
Braydon Nix finished his race in a time of 2:06.71.
1,500-meter run: After narrowly missing the school record in the 1,500 last week,
Chip Smith finally eclipsed the previous school record as he clocked in at 3:55.40 tonight. The prior record of 3:55.50, held by Ed Wigton, had stood since 2013.
Kolin Brake was right on the heels of Smith, finishing in a time of 3:55.99, good to move into third all-time at Capital behind Smith and Wigton.
Ridwan Aliawl came in with a time of 4:11.11.
5,000-meter run:
Justin Rona became the second Capital runner ever to eclipse 15 minutes in the 5K outdoors as he finished in a time of 14:59.28, sitting second all-time at Capital in the distance.
Zach Glotzbecker clocked in at 15:27.57, followed by
Aiden Mahony (15:51.37) and
Jordan Hull (16:47.95). Glotzbecker's time of 15:27.57 moved him into eighth all-time at Capital in the event.
4x100-meter relay: The Comets' relay team of
Mershaud Parker,
Cheik Souare,
Demetre Wheeler and
Leighton Kordack placed fourth in 42.38 seconds.
Hammer Throw:
Nolan Piper placed ninth with a heave of 51.91 meters.
WOMEN
100-meter hurdles:
Maria Da Cunha qualified for the finals in seventh place after clocking a prelim time of 15.02 seconds.
200-meter dash:
Isabella Johnson clocked in a time of 26.57 seconds to finish 15th in the 200 dash.
400-meter dash: Johnson again was in action in the 400 finishing with a time of 1:02.87 to place 21st.
400-meter hurdles:
Maria Da Cunha took third overall in the 400-meter hurdles and re-broke the school record with a time of 1:03.48. Just last week, Da Cunha broke the prior record that had stood since 2006 with a time of 1:03.65.
800-meter run:
Shelby Janes placed 21st in a time of 2:23.35. Her time bumped her up to fifth all-time at Capital.
5,000-meter run:
Laney Tarr clocked in a time of 19:21.68.
Pole Vault:
Alex Wilkinson placed eighth in the pole vault with a top mark of 3.38 meters.
Hammer Throw:
Mia Sanchez finished 12th overall with a mark of 38.41 meters.

For those not competing at the last chance meets and vying for one more attempt at qualifying for nationals, the season is now concluded.
