De'Von Blackwell is beginning his first season with the Capital University track and field teams in the 2022-23 indoor season. He will work directly with the throwers while assisting the program in other areas as needed.Â
Blackwell has served as the throws coach at Eastmoor Academy since 2017 where he has helped the program in their streak of 11 straight city meet titles. His women's throwers even finished third overall at the state meet for shot put.Â
As an athlete himself, Blackwell threw for Notre Dame College in the greater Cleveland area. There, he was the Indoor Weight Throw Record Holder, was a two-year team captain, and was named the 2014 Mountain East Conference Field Champion after finishing first in the hammer throw and discus.Â
In high school, Blackwell competed for Trinity High School in Garfield Heights, Ohio where his team won the 2009 state championship. He was a four-year team captain and placed fourth in the shot put at the state meet. He was also a three-time state qualifier and still holds the school discus record with a mark of 167-10.Â
