Women's Soccer Takes Care of Business Against Pitt.-Bradford

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Women's Soccer earned its second straight win with a 3-0 decision over the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford. Capital featured three difference goal scorers for the second straight match coming off of yesterday's victory.

The Crusaders won the aerial battle after all three of their goals came off of headers deep into Panther territory.

Capital took a 2-0 lead into the half with goals scored by junior forward Monique Hanayik (Sidney, Ohio) and senior defender Mariah Richards (Canton, Ohio).  In the 13th minute, junior forward Becca Cartmill (Temecula, Calif.) led Hanayik into perfect scoring position. Hanayik finished the job by heading home the opening goal, which would prove to be all that was needed for the win.

Adding to Capital's lead in the 44th minute, Richards also went vertical to double up the Crusaders' lead. The senior's goal came straight off of a beautifully placed corner from junior Jackie Kelly (Fairfield, Ohio).

Sophomore Mary Bushee (San Marcos, Calif.) added her second goal of the weekend, connecting on a header off of junior Claire Quinn's free kick.

Capital's defense was stout throughout the course of the game, limiting the Panthers to just two attempts in the first half. While they doubled that count in the second half, Capital still outshot Pitt.-Bradford, 25-6.

Senior Kim Leitch (Rocky River, Ohio) and junior Alexis Brand (Orlando, Fla.) split time in net, each receiving one half of playing time. Both made two saves with Brand earning the start and the win.

Their counterpart, Sarah Dailey, made 12 saves on 15 attempts against.

Capital's next action is home against Thomas More College (Ky.) on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. They will kick off action in a men's and women's soccer doubleheader at Bernlohr Stadium. That evening will mark the first official night game in Capital history, when the men host Thomas More, at 7 p.m.
