The Capital University women's tennis team played three matches in the Orlando, Fla., area this week, and the young squad gained some valuable experience against teams from Indiana, Michigan, and Georgia.

Capital (2-4) opened their spring campaign Monday afternoon with a 6-3 loss to Hanover (Ind.). Sophomore Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.), junior Betsey McLaughlin (Granville, Ohio) and sophomore Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) recorded victories at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Capital's freshman trio of Julia Lucas (Erie, Pa.), Ashlin Gable and Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) played strong matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, and Nos. 1-3 singles.

The team played under the lights Tuesday evening against Alma (Mich.) as rain postponed the afternoon match in Orlando. The Crusaders dropped a 9-0 decision to against the Scots (2-5). Hohenstein and Trier continued their strong play on the trip with two very close and competitive singles losses. The duo of Schott and Trier also played a great doubles match on Court 2 against a pair of seniors from Alma.

The Crusaders finished up their spring trip on Wednesday with a 9-0 loss to Brenau (Ga.), a team ranked second nationally in NAIA.

Capital returns to action on Friday, March 22, as it travels to Ohio Wesleyan before opening its Ohio Athletic Conference campaign on the road against Heidelberg on Saturday, March 23.
