WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced on Monday afternoon that Capital women's soccer's Maggie Springer has been named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. 

The honor is the first in the career of the freshman Springer and marks the third Athlete of the Week selection this school year for Capital athletics. 

Springer's award comes on the heels of her assistance in helping the Comets to two wins over Hanover (4-1) and Albion (2-0). Across the two games, Springer and the rest of the Comet defense limited their opposition to a combined total of six shots on goal. The efforts also yielded the Comets' first shutout of the season in their 2-0 win over Albion. Additionally, Springer highlighted her week personally as she scored her first career goal in the 4-1 win over Hanover. 

Springer and the Comets sit with an overall record of 5-1 through their first six games of the season and will face a tough task as they head out on the road for their next contest at Carnegie Mellon who is receiving votes in the national rankings.
