Columbus, Ohio – After a strong 4-1 win over Hanover yesterday, the Capital women's soccer team returned to action inside Bernlohr Stadium on Sunday, facing the Albion Britons for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
The Comets grabbed their second straight win of the weekend, shutting out Albion, 2-0, improving to 5-1-0 on the season.
The first half saw a defensive deadlock between the two teams, with neither side able to find the back of the net. Capital totaled four shots in the first half to Albion's three.
Thanks to a strong second-half push, Capital was able to secure the 2-0 win. Scoring started six minutes after the second-half whistle when
Ava Spirk carried the ball up the field and found a perfect cross to
Kristiane Kleppe, who scored her first goal of the season to put the Comets up 1-0.
The second goal came from senior
Sofia Walton, who was pulled down by a Briton while attacking the net, resulting in a penalty kick. Walton then calmly converted the attempt into the upper-left corner to give Capital a 2-0 lead and the win.
As a team, Capital finished with 11 shots, seven of them on goal. Goalkeeper
Lauren Hinshaw stayed solid, closing out the full 90 minutes with three saves. Capital's defense kept Albion's offense in check, allowing just three total shots on goal throughout the game.
