Columbus, Ohio – After welcoming Mount Vernon Nazarene to the Capital Center Field House yesterday for their first match of the 2026-27 season, the Capital women's tennis team returned to action for a doubleheader against Franciscan and Indiana University East.

Match One vs. Franciscan
To start the day, the Comets faced the Franciscan Barons, falling 4-2.

Doubles
In the No. 1 doubles match, Stephanie Makris and Scarlett Stephens faced Jordan Beltavski and Colette Park, defeating the Barons, 5-2 (ABN). In the No. 2 doubles match, Nicole D'Arcangelo and Addison Kokensparger fell 1-6. 

Singles
In singles action, Stephens faced Jordan Beltavski at No. 1, winning the match 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2, Makris battled Colette Park, earning another singles victory for the Comets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
D'Arcangelo faced Mattle at No. 3, dropping both sets, 1-6, 0-6. Kokensparger competed at No. 4 against Pastura, falling 2-6, 2-6. In the final singles match, Elena Pahs faced Hazel Mistry and fell 5-2 (ABN).

Match Two vs. Indiana University East
In their second matchup of the day, the Comets fell to the IU East Red Wolves, 6-1.

Doubles
Makris and Stephens opened the No. 1 doubles match against Pia Ziegelmeier and Brooke Scharfstall, falling 6(5)-7(7).
At No. 2 doubles, D'Arcangelo and Kokensparger fell 0-6 to Adaysha Smiley and Mackenzie Davis. In the No. 3 spot, Kinley Neff and Pahs fell 1-6 to Lauren Miller and Maria Lopez Sanchez.

Singles
After a long day of competition, the Comets continued to battle in singles action. Stephens opened at No. 1 against Scharfstall, adding another victory to her record, winning in scores of 6-1, 6-4.
At No. 2, Makris was Ziegelmeier, where she fell , 4-6, 1-6. Kokensparger competed at No. 3 against Smiley, falling 1-6, 0-6. At No. 4, D'Arcangelo fell to Miller, 0-6, 0-6.

Neff competed at No. 5 against Traylor, falling 2-6, 0-6, while Pahs fell to Davis at No. 6, 0-6, 0-6.
