COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team opened its 2026 season inside the Capital Center Fieldhouse, falling to Mount Vernon Nazarene University 5-2.
Doubles
Capital got on the board first in doubles play as
Scarlett Stephens and
Stephanie Makris defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene's Deah Bresson and Annie Mahek 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles,
Addison Kokensparger and
Nicole D'Arcangelo fell to Andi Green and Alanna Reyes, 6-2.
In the No. 3 doubles match,
Kinley Neff and
Elena Pahs battled Maria Cottenden and Elisha Burson before falling 7-5.
Singles
Stephens carried her momentum into singles play, earning her first singles victory of the season with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Mahek.
Makris followed with a victory of her own, defeating Bresson 6-2, 6-1 to earn her first singles win of the season.
Kokensparger battled Green at No. 3 singles but fell 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 4 singles, D'Arcangelo was defeated by Reyes, 6-2, 6-0.
Pahs fell to Cottenden at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Rounding out the singles lineup, Neff battled Burson at No. 6 singles before falling 6-1, 7-6.
