COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University men's basketball legend Mike Stumpf has been inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame. Stumpf is a 1973 graduate of Capital University and was inducted into the Capital Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.
To this day, Stumpf holds program records in career scoring and career rebounding, finishing his career with 1,677 points and 1,197 rebounds. Additionally, he currently holds the single-season rebounds record with 367 during the 1969-70 season.
Throughout his career, Stumpf was a four-time All-OAC recipient, highlighted by first team honors three years in a row. Additionally, Stumpf became just the second All-American in program history in 1973 and was the program's first OAC Player of the Year that same season. Stumpf was also prolific in the classroom as he was named the first Academic All-American in program history in 1972. On the court, Stumpf was a three-time All-Region recipient as well.
Beyond his playing time at Capital, Stumpf returned as Head Baseball Coach at Capital in 1977.
Prior to joining the Purple and White of Capital, Stumpf was a 1969 graduate of Columbus West High School where he was an All-City first team honoree twice and an honorable mention All-State selection his senior year.
After his decorated career at Capital University was completed, Stumpf continued to give back to the game of basketball as a coach at Big Walnut High School and was named the OCC Coach of the Year in 1998. He has also served on the Big Walnut School Board, as a Trustee at Worthington Christian Village and as President of Riverstone Construction.
Stumpf's induction into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame makes him the sixth individual from Capital men's and women's basketball to enter the Hall of Fame.
