TIFFIN, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team played spoiler on senior day at Heidelberg University on Saturday afternoon, as the Comets earned an 82-76 Ohio Athletic Conference victory inside Seiberling Gymnasium.
Capital (9-16, 4-12 OAC) used a balanced offensive effort and timely defensive stops down the stretch to pull away late, handing the Student Princes (13-12, 7-9 OAC) a setback in their home finale.
The Comets held a slim 37-35 advantage at the break before the two teams traded leads throughout much of the second half. Capital found separation in the final six minutes, converting key baskets in transition and knocking down free throws to close out the road win.
Senior guard
McKane Finkenbine delivered one of his strongest performances in his final collegiate game, finishing with 21 points, seven assists, and four rebounds while hitting four three-pointers. Finkenbine finishes his Capital career with 1,041 points, placing him 32nd all time in program history. Fellow senior
Brody Gowen also took the floor for the final time in his career, contributing four points, six rebounds, and steady interior defense as Capital controlled the glass in crucial moments.
Julian Mitchell led all scorers with 24 points, including a 6-of-9 effort from beyond the arc, while
Se'Ron Calloway-White added 15 to go along with a team high four steals.
Capital shot 50 percent from the field and outscored Heidelberg 45-41 in the second half, sealing the victory at the free-throw line in the closing seconds.
The victory brought the Comets' 2025-26 season to a close, providing a strong road finish to the campaign.
