WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Ohio Athletic Conference announced Monday afternoon that four Capital athletes were honored in this week's addition of the Athlete of the Week Awards.
Jess Lipp and
Freddy Noday were recognized from men's lacrosse, while
Brooke Burchfield from women's lacrosse and
Scarlett Stephens from women's tennis also received the distinction. With the four honorees, the Capital athletic department has now earned the award 36 times in this academic year.
Jess Lipp had a historic performance against Heidelberg on Tuesday, Apr. 21, tying the single game program record for both points and assists, with 11 and six respectively. He would also finish the game with five goals and three ground balls.
Freddy Noday was automatic in the face-off circle, winning 13-14 opportunities while also picking up 10 ground balls. He would cap off his night with his second goal of the season.
Continuing her strong play in the cage this week would be
Brooke Burchfield, as in the teams 15-9 win against Muskingum, she would record 18 saves on 27 shots on goal. In addition, Burchfield also added a season high seven ground balls.
Scarlett Stephens went 4-0 this week for the Comets, helping the team clinch the three seed in the OAC tournament. In the first match of the week against Otterbein, she paired up with teammate
Stephanie Makris to win the no. 1 doubles spot 6-3. She would conclude her play against Otterbein with a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the no. 1 singles spot. In the team's regular season finale, she would once again pair with Makris, winning first doubles 6-0. She would conclude her strong week with a 6-1 and 6-3 singles win.
