COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University men's lacrosse team took care of business on Saturday afternoon, defeating Muskingum in a 12-9 thriller in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament Quarterfinal at Bernlohr Stadium.
With the win, the Comets improve to 8-8 overall and advance to the OAC Tournament Semifinals, while also avenging a regular season loss to Muskingum earlier this year.
Capital came out strong offensively, building momentum early behind a balanced attack. The Comets found the back of the net five times in the first quarter, helping them create separation heading into the second quarter. Despite a push from Muskingum heading into the half, Capital maintained control and held off the late surge to secure the victory.
Leading the way for the Comets was Colton Woods, who delivered a standout performance with five goals and two assists. Jess Lipp followed with four goals, continuing to be a key contributor in the offensive unit. Mason Miller added two goals and an assist, while Charlie Howenstine chipped in with a goal and two assists to round out the scoring effort.
Capital showcased efficiency on offense, totaling 40 shots with 30 on goal, while also capitalizing on opportunities in key moments. The Comets were strong in possession, winning 19 face-offs compared to Muskingum's 5, which played a crucial role in controlling the tempo of the game.
Defensively, Capital held Muskingum to nine goals while forcing multiple turnovers and securing 37 ground balls, demonstrating their ability to win key battles across the field.
