ORLANDO, Fla. – The Capital University women's tennis team lost a tightly contested match to Allegheny College on Wednesday, 5-2. The Comets are now 5-7 overall, while the Gators are 14-3.
DOUBLES
In doubles action, the Gators secured the point in a closely contested doubles play.
At No. 1 doubles,
Scarlett Stephens and
Stephanie Makris fell in a tight battle to Gabrielle Bassette and Maria Lounder, 7-6.
In the second spot,
Annika Hansen and
Jenny Rollins teamed up to defeat Emiliia Grydnieva and Adriana Navarro, 6-4.
In the third spot,
Addison Kokensparger and
Ella McGlynn were defeated by Giada Palmieri and Anabel Bachman, 6-0.
SINGLES
The Comets were in several tight battles in singles play, but ultimately Allegheny wound up winning the necessary four matches to win the match.
At the first singles match,
Scarlett Stephens won her three-set match, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0.
In the second spot,
Stephanie Makris fell 6-3, 7-5.
At No. 3 singles,
Annika Hansen won, 6-4, 6-2.
In the fourth spot,
Ella McGlynn was downed in a tight three-set match, 7-5, 1-6, 0-1.
At No. 5 singles,
Jenny Rollins fell, 6-2, 6-1.
Rounding it out at No. 6,
Addison Kokensparger fell in back-to-back 6-1 sets.
