Women’s Tennis Secures Comeback Win at Anderson

PENDLETON, Ind. – The Capital University women's tennis team pulled off a come-from-behind win over Anderson University on Saturday night as the Comets won the match 4-3 in the end.

The hosts claimed the doubles point and two out of the first four singles matches to lead 3-2, but wins from Jenny Rollins and Ashlyn Edwards in the last two matches of the day were enough to secure victory for the Comets.

Capital is now 5-4 overall and Anderson is 2-6.

DOUBLES
Anderson took the doubles point after claiming victories at both the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Capital won the No. 1 spot, but winning two out of three sent the doubles point the way of the Ravens.

At No. 1 doubles, Annika Hansen and Stephanie Makris teamed up to win 6-3.

At No. 2 doubles, Addison Kokensparger and Ella McGlynn fell in a tight battle, 7-5.

In the third spot, Ashlyn Edwards and Jenny Rollins dropped their match 6-2.

SINGLES
The Comets flipped the script in singles play, winning the necessary four matches to claim the match 4-3.

At the top singles spot, Stephanie Makris defeated Ella Frantz by scores of 6-3, 6-1.

In the second spot, Scarlett Stephens made quick work of Paula Torrent, winning 6-2, 6-0.

At the third spot, Annika Hansen lost her bout with Gabby Hosier, 4-6, 3-6.

In the fourth singles spot, Ella McGlynn dropped both sets to Abigail Cunningham by scores of 6-3.

At the fifth singles spot, Jenny Rollins eventually won by retirement over Ella Maiden. Rollins forced a third set winning the second 6-4 after dropping the first 2-6. In the third set, she was comfortably ahead 5-0 before Maiden retired.

At the sixth spot, Ashlyn Edwards won the first set 6-4 over Kate Oberle. Oberle then took the second set 6-3, forcing a third set. In that third set, Edwards regained her advantage, winning 6-2 and giving the Comets all-important fourth team point.

UP NEXT
Capital will now direct their sights on their spring trip as the team will travel to Orlando, Florida next week to play four matches at the USTA National Campus. The team will get their Orlando trip underway on Sunday, March 1st with a 3 p.m. match with UMary.
