WESTERVILLE, Ohio - On Monday afternoon, Capital University saw two student-athletes selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference's Player of the Week in their respective sports.  Senior sprinter Maria Da Cunha took home the honor for women's track and field, while sophomore infielder Bryce Kyees was recognized for baseball.

This is Da Cunha's first OAC Athlete of the Week honor of her career.  For Kyees, he has now brought home the award twice.  With these two new nominations, a Capital student-athlete has now won the award 21 times this academic calendar year.

Da Cunha was in action this past weekend at the All-Ohio Championships, participating in four different events.  In the 200-meter dash, she would place 15th with a time of 27.50 seconds.  She would record a new personal best in the 400-meter, coming in second with a time of 59.55 seconds.  That time is good enough for fourth all-time in program history.  The Columbus native rounded out her day running in both the 4x200 relay and the 4x400 relay.  The 200 relay would finish in third, while the 400 would place fourth with a time of 4:07.33, also moving the quartet into seventh all-time in program history.

Kyees was red-hot in the baseball team's season opening series, recording 7 hits in 12 at-bats to lead the Comets to a 3-0 weekend over Asbury University.  The sophomore clubbed three home runs, with two of them coming in game two of the series.  He would tally seven RBIs, also drawing a team high five base on balls.  To finish off his stellar weekend, he would also swipe two bags.

The Capital Track & Field team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 21 for the Wittenberg Invitational.  Meanwhile, the baseball team travels to North Carolina to take on Brevard College in a three game set beginning on Friday, Feb. 20, with game one beginning at 11 am.
