WESTERVILLE, Ohio - On Monday, May 4, Capital University's
Ty Clifton was named OAC Hitter of the week for his performance in the final three games of his collegiate career. For Clifton, this is the first time he has earned the honor this season. The Capital athletic department has now brought home the award 37 times this academic calender year.
Clifton's strong play began on Tuesday, as the team traveled to Richmond, Ind. to take on Earlham College. He finished the game 3-5 at the plate, with a double and two no-doubt home runs. Tallying five RBIs, Clifton tied his season-high, also having five in the season opener at Asbury.
The final two games of Clifton's career would be historic, as in a doubleheader against rival Otterbein, he left the yard for the ninth time this season. Clifton's total of nine places him in a tie with Jason Brandt (1997) and Brian Pennington (1987) in the program record books for a single season. He had three base knocks of the day, also bringing three Capital runners in to help the team bring the Oar back to Bexley.
Clifton ends his Capital career with 129 hits, 16 home runs, and a very impressive 99 RBIs.
