DELAWARE / WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Claire Robinson's school record in the women's pole vault highlighted a great two days of competition for the Capital track and field program as the team competed on Friday at Ohio Wesleyan's OWU Open and on Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Otterbein University.
Along with Robinson's record, the Comets set forth numerous program top-10 marks to highlight the weekend.
Below is a summary of the team's performances.
FRIDAY - OWU OPEN
MEN
60-meter dash:
Mershaud Parker ran 6.98 seconds in the prelims, before going 7.03 seconds in the finals.
Cheik Souare ran 7.14 seconds in the prelims before going 7.05 seconds in the finals. Parker's time of 6.98 seconds improved his own standing on fourth all-time in school history.
400-meter dash:
Demetre Wheeler clocked in at 52.94 seconds to place second, while
Trevor Estep clocked 1:01.04.
800-meter run:
Henry Taylor clocked in at 2:09.94 to place fifth.
One Mile run:
Aaron McNutt was the runnerup in 4:47.25, with
Jordan Hull placing fourth in 4:48.38.
Aiden Smith rounded it out with a time of 5:17.00.
WOMEN
60-meter dash:
Kaylee Jackson ran 8.13 seconds in the prelims before lowering her time to 8.00 seconds in the finals.
Jaleea Harvey ran 8.23 seconds in the prelims before clocking 8.14 seconds in the finals.
200-meter dash:
Jaylin Bullock ran a time of 30.96 seconds in the finals.
High Jump:
Brooklyn Herbert jumped 1.53 meters to finish third.
Triple Jump:
Larae Portis was third in 9.33 meters, while
Jersie Papacostas was fourth in 9.18 meters.
Weight Throw:
Mia Sanchez placed fifth with a throw of 12.28 meters, with
Lillian Baker placing ninth in 10.01 meters.
SATURDAY - ALL-OHIO CHAMPIONSHIPS
MEN
60-meter dash:
Cheik Souare ran a time of 7.06 seconds in the prelims to qualify for finals.
Mershaud Parker clocked 7.08 seconds to place 10th while
Leighton Kordack was 20th in 7.21 seconds. In the finals, Souare finished fourth in a time of 6.99 seconds.
200-meter dash:
Demetre Wheeler placed fourth in 22.55 seconds, followed by
Neko Henry in sixth (22.81s),
Cheik Souare in eighth (22.83s),
Mershaud Parker in ninth (22.89s) and
Darron Robinson in 18th (23.91s).
400-meter dash:
Neko Henry won the 400-meter title in a time of 51.03 seconds, while
Darron Robinson was 20th in a time of 53.65 seconds.
One Mile run:
Chip Smith placed ninth in a time of 4:35.08.
3,000-Meter run:
Mikey Arnone placed fourth overall in a time of 8:47.94, followed by
Justin Rona in 10th in a time of 8:57.87. Arnone's time was good enough to leapfrog him up to third all-time in the event.
5,000-Meter run:
Zach Glotzbecker placed 12th in a time of 15:59.59.
Aiden Mahony was 16th in a time of 16:13.20.
4x200-meter Relay: The quartet of
Mershaud Parker,
Darron Robinson,
Demetre Wheeler and
Cheik Souare placed fourth in a time of 1:31.52. The time was good to move the relay team into seventh all-time at Capital.
4x400-meter Relay: The 4x4 team of
Neko Henry,
Mershaud Parker,
Demetre Wheeler, and
Darron Robinson won the event in a time of 3:25.09. The time was good enough to slot the quartet second all-time in the event.
Distance Medley Relay: The quartet of
Ridwan Aliawl,
Leighton Kordack,
Braydon Nix and
Dimetrius Floyd finished seventh in a time of 11:10.26.
Weight Throw:
Nolan Piper finished fourth with a throw of 15.90 meters.
Shot Put:
Nolan Piper placed sixth overall with a best throw of 14.47 meters.
Waylon Yeager was 11th with a heave of 13.69 meters. Piper has topped his previous best of 14.44 meters, still standing tenth in program history.
WOMEN
60-meter dash:
Kaylee Jackson was ninth in 8.09 seconds, while
Jaleea Harvey was 13th in 8.19 seconds.
200-meter dash:
Kaylee Jackson placed third overall in a time of 25.93 seconds, followed by
Isabella Johnson in 10th with a time of 27.05 seconds.
Maria Da Cunha clocked in at 27.50 seconds to place 15th and
Jaleea Harvey was 21st in 27.85 seconds.
400-meter dash:
Maria Da Cunha placed second in a time of 59.55 seconds. She has raised her personal best, with her previous standing at 59.77 seconds. Da Cunha remains fourth all time in program history.
800-meter run:
Lauren Wynk placed 16th with a time of 2:31.67.
3,000-meter run:
Laney Tarr placed seventh in a time of 10:48.71.
4x200-meter relay: The team of
Jaleea Harvey,
Isabella Johnson,
Maria Da Cunha, and
Juli Sprague finished third in a time of 1:48.96.
4x400-meter relay: The quartet of
Maria Da Cunha,
Kaylee Jackson,
Shelby Janes and
Isabella Johnson placed fourth in a time of 4:07.33. The time was good to move that relay team into seventh all-time at Capital.
High Jump:
Brooklyn Herbert finished seventh with a height of 1.48 meters.
Long Jump:
Jersie Papacostas placed fourth overall with a jump of 4.94 meters, while
Larae Portis was 14th with a distance of 4.14 meters.
Pole Vault:
Claire Robinson set a new program record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.57 meters. The mark beat the prior record of 3.51 meters, held by Jordan Lyle since 2015. Robinson finished third overall.
Alex Wilkinson cleared a height of 3.12 meters to place 12th.

Capital will travel to the Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday, February 21st for their next competition and final tune-up before the OAC Championships.
