SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – THe Capital University track and field program ventured to Wittenberg's Invitational on Saturday, competing in their final competition before next weekend's OAC Championship meet.
The Comets certainly had their eyes set on next week's OAC meet and preparation for that, but nonetheless the team put forth several top performances in today's meet.
Below is a summary of the day for the Comets.
MEN
60-meter dash:
Cheik Souare placed seventh in prelims in a time of 7.07 seconds to qualify for finals.
Mershaud Parker raced a time of 7.12 seconds, followed by
Leighton Kordack in 7.27 seconds. In the finals, Souare placed sixth in 7.13 seconds.
200-meter dash:
Leighton Kordack clocked in at 23.02 seconds.
400-meter dash:
Neko Henry was the runner-up in the event with a time of 49.45 seconds. The time was good to leapfrog him into second all-time at Capital.
Trevor Estep ran a time of 59.16 seconds in his race.
800-meter run:
Mikey Arnone placed eighth in a time of 1:57.41. The time was good for second all-time at Capital, just under a second off the school record.
1,000-meter run:
Henry Taylor placed sixth in a time of 2:47.94.
One mile run:
Justin Rona ran a time of 4:22.42 to place eighth overall. His time was also good enough to move him up to a tie for fourth all-time in the event at Capital.
3,000-meter run:
Zach Glotzbecker led the Comets with an 11th place finish and a time of 8:58.10. His time was good enough to bump him up to fifth all-time in the event at Capital.
Ridwan Aliawl was next for Capital with a time of 9:05.38. His time was good to set him ninth all-time at Capital.
Aiden Mahony was next for the Comets with a time of 9:10.02, followed by
Dimetrius Floyd (9:21.35),
Aaron McNutt (9:40.29) and
Jordan Hull (9:42.96).
Weight Throw:
Nolan Piper placed second in the event with a throw of 16.79 meters.
Shot Put: Piper was at it again with a sixth place finish in the shot put on a heave of 14.26 meters.
Waylon Yeager had a best throw of 13.54 meters.
WOMEN
60-meter dash:
Kaylee Jackson led the Comets with a time of 8.09 seconds, followed by
Jaleea Harvey in 8.24 seconds,
Maria Da Cunha in 8.31 seconds and
Jersie Papacostas in 8.50 seconds. Da Cunha's time was good to tie her for 10th all-time at Capital.
200-meter dash:
Maria Da Cunha ran a time of 26.51 seconds to lead the way, followed by
Isabella Johnson in 26.81 seconds,
Jaleea Harvey in 27.02 seconds, and
Jaylin Bullock in 30.34 seconds. Da Cunha's time was good to move her up to seventh all-time in the event, while Johnson added her name to 10th all-time in the event at Capital.
400-meter dash:
Kaylee Jackson placed seventh overall in a time of 58.44 seconds which is good for third all-time at Capital in the event.
Isabella Johnson ran a time of 1:03.01.
Weight Throw:
Mia Sanchez threw a best mark of 10.39 meters, followed by
Lillian Baker with a throw of 10.02 meters.
Pole Vault:
Claire Robinson placed seventh with a best vault of 3.36 meters, followed by
Alex Wilkinson in 16th with a vault of 3.06 meters.
High Jump:
Brooklyn Herbert placed sixth with a best jump of 1.53 meters.
Long Jump:
Jersie Papacostas placed 13th with a leap of 4.95 meters.
Triple Jump: Papacostas was seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 9.81 meters.
UP NEXT
Capital will next compete at the OAC Championships on Friday, February 27th and Saturday, February 28th. This year's championships will be held at Heidelberg University.
