AKRON/WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University track and field program sent student-athletes to two competitions this weekend with
Cheik Souare,
Kaylee Jackson and
Maria Da Cunha competing at Akron's Al Campbell Invitational on Friday, and the rest of the squad going to Otterbein's Invitational on Saturday.
Below is a summary of the weekend's performances, highlighted by a few program top-10 performances.
FRIDAY at AKRON
Men's 60-meter dash:
Cheik Souare placed 15th as the top D3 finisher in the race, clocking a time of 7.06 seconds.
Men's 200-meter dash: Souare was in action again in the 200-meter, placing ninth overall in a time of 22.43 seconds.
Women's 60-meter dash:
Kaylee Jackson finished 33rd in a time of 8.13 seconds. She was the top D3 finisher in the field.
Women's 200-meter dash: Jackson was at it again in the 200-meter dash, placing 11th as the top D3 runner again. She clocked a time of 25.63 seconds which sits her second best in school history, just .04 seconds off the school record.
Women's 400-meter dash:
Maria Da Cunha placed 18th overall as the best D3 finisher in the race. She clocked a new PR time of 1:00.27 which improves her own fourth best time in program history.
SATURDAY at OTTERBEIN
MEN
60-meter dash:
Mershaud Parker qualified first for the finals with a time of 7.16 seconds.
Darron Robinson and
Leighton Kordack both clocked in at 7.22 seconds to round out the top-three in prelims.
Demetre Wheeler was sixth in 7.28 seconds. In the finals heat, Parker won in a time of 7.07, while Robinson was third in 7.14, Wheeler was fourteen 7.20 and Kordack was fifth in 7.21. Robinson's time of 7.14 seconds was good to move him ninth all-time at Capital.
200-meter dash:
Neko Henry won the event in 22.78 seconds, while
Trevor Estep was 10th in 25.97 seconds. Henry's time of 22.78 was good to set him ninth all-time in the event at Capital.
800-meter run:
Henry Taylor clocked in a time of 2:09.92 to place eighth in the event.
3,000-meter run:
Kolin Brake won the event in 8:44.75 with
Mikey Arnone finishing seventh in 9:00.66,
Zach Glotzbecker placing 11th in 9:14.21,
Aiden Mahony finishing 12th in 9:15.51,
Ridwan Aliawl in 15th with a time of 9:25.36,
Dimetrius Floyd finishing 17th in 9:38.48,
Aaron McNutt placing 23rd in 9:55.85, and
Jordan Hull placing 24th in 9:57.70. Brake's time was good to move him up to second all-time in the event at Capital, while Arnone moved up to third all-time with his time.
4x400-meter relay:
Darron Robinson,
Leighton Kordack,
Demetre Wheeler and
Neko Henry won in a time of 3:29.33.
Long Jump:
Mershaud Parker was third with a jump of 6.03 meters, followed by
Leighton Kordack in seventh with a mark of 5.35 meters.
Shot Put:
Nolan Piper placed third with a heave of 13.28 meters.
Waylon Yeager was fourth in 12.70 meters, and
William Dodd Jr. was fifth with a mark of 11.03 meters.
Weight Throw: Piper won the weight throw with a mark of 15.99 meters. Dodd Jr. was second, throwing 13.93 meters on his best mark. Dodd's throw of 13.93 was good enough to move into 10th all-time at Capital.
WOMEN
60-meter dash:
Jaleea Harvey clocked in a time of 8.25 seconds to qualify second in the 60-meters. In the finals, Harvey lowered her time to 8.17 seconds to take second. Harvey's time in the finals moved her up to eighth all-time in Capital's history.
60-meter hurdles:
Maria Da Cunha won the event in a time of 10.02 seconds.
200-meter dash:
Isabella Johnson was second overall in a time of 27.49 seconds.
Juli Sprague was fourth in 28.56 seconds, followed by
Jaylin Bullock in sixth with a time of 31.09 seconds.
1,000-meter run:
Chloe Zarlino finished third in a time of 3:50.63.
3,000-meter run:
Laney Tarr won the event in 10:45.89, while
Faith Michel was third in 11:09.69. Tarr's time of 10:45.89 was good enough to sit her fourth all-time at Capital, while Michel's time of 11:09.69 sets her seventh best in school history.
4x400-meter relay: The quartet of
Juli Sprague,
Jaleea Harvey,
Maria Da Cunha and
Kaylee Jackson won in a time of 4:10.96.
Pole Vault:
Claire Robinson placed second, clearing a height of 3.24 meters.
Alex Wilkinson was fourth with a mark of 3.14 meters.
Long Jump:
Jersie Papacostas was second overall with a jump of 4.94 meters.
Larae Portis was eighth, leaping 4.17 meters.
Triple Jump:
Larae Portis marked 9.50 meters to win the triple jump.
Weight Throw:
Mia Sanchez placed second with a mark of 12.90 meters.
