COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Wednesday, November 5th, Capital University's President, Dr. Jared Tice and Director of Athletics and Recreation,
Dr. Darrell Bailey Sr. jointly announced the return of the university's men's tennis program. With the men's tennis re-launch, Capital University will now sponsor 22 varsity athletics teams.
The program will return to competition in the fall of 2026 after a brief two-year hiatus. The men's tennis team will be under the direction of current Head Tennis Coach, Taylor Stanchin, who also oversees the women's program.
"The return of men's tennis reflects our deep commitment to expanding opportunity and excellence at Capital," said Dr. Jared Tice, President of Capital University. "Athletics are an integral part of the Capital experience - where purpose, perseverance, and community meet. This program's renewal not only strengthens our proud athletic tradition but also reinforces our mission to transform lives through empowering experiences, on and off the court."
"We are thrilled to re-launch our men's tennis program, a decision that reflects the growth and ambition of our athletic department," said Dr. Bailey. "Tennis has a rich history and a passionate following, and we are confident that this program, as well as our women's program, under the guidance of Coach Stanchin will attract talented student-athletes who will excel both on the court and in the classroom."
"The return of the men's tennis team marks an exciting new chapter, not just for me as a coach, but for the student-athletes we are recruiting," said Coach Stanchin. "We're re-building this from the ground up, and that's what makes it special. Our first men's team following the program's return isn't just here to compete – they're here to set the standard. Everything we do is about accountability, growth and commitment. These student-athletes will establish the foundation and legacy for Capital Men's Tennis, and we're excited to bring in competitors who are hungry to earn it."
Coach Stanchin is in her first year overseeing Capital Tennis during the 2025-26 academic year. Through the fall of her first season overseeing the women's program, she has guided the team to a 4-3 record.
