TIFFIN, Ohio -- On Friday evening, the Capital University cross country program got their 2024 season underway, running in the Tiffleberg Open. The meet was a co-hosted event by both Tiffin University and Heidelberg University and was ran on a 5K course for both the men and the women.
The competition for Capital marked the first for the program under the direction of new Head Coach Ian Kellogg.
On the women's side, Capital trotted out three competitors in the form of
Grace Osborn,
Catherine Schaub and
Elizabeth Mak. Osborn, a senior at Capital made her debut on the cross country course, finishing 27th overall in a time of 20:10.9. That time was strong enough to place her 10th on the program leaderboard in the 5,000-meter cross country race.
Following suit behind Osborn were Schaub and Mak. Schaub crossed the line in a time of 21:41.2, placing 49th overall. Mak finished her first race of the season in 22:24.0, good for 54th overall.
On the men's side, the Comets placed fifth as a team, led by a strong 12th place finish from
Mikey Arnone. Arnone's time clocked in at 16:03.4 which is the second fastest cross country 5K in program history. His time missed the school record by just four seconds.
Zach Glotzbecker was the next Comet to finish, placing 20th with a time of 16:33.2 which is good enough to sit him third all-time in the event in program history.
Aaron McNutt placed 26th overall with a time of 17:08.1, which marked the 10th fastest 5K in program history. Continuing a strong opening for the Comet men was
Aiden Mahony who clocked in at 17:28.4 which is good enough to set him 13th on the program leaderboard.
Andrew Rouser was the next to finish, clocking a time of 18:37.1 which beats out the previous 20th best time in program history.
Aiden Smith rounded out the Comets' performance on opening day with a time of 19:51.6 in his debut race.
