WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced the All-Conference selections for the 2024 season on Monday morning and featured on that list this season for the Capital University baseball team were sophomore
Robby Harrison and junior
Tyler Sickles. Harrison was selected as a second team catcher, while Sickles was an honorable mention pitcher.
For both players, the postseason recognition is the first of their careers and denotes the first season since 2019 in which multiple Capital players were honored in the postseason. Harrison's second team honor is the highest postseason accolade for Cap since Shane Lyons was also second team in that 2019 season.
This season, Harrison led the Comets with a batting average of .350 on 36 hits, six doubles, two triples and two home runs. He also accounted for 14 walks, six hit-by-pitches, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored. As a defensive catcher, Harrison held a .975 fielding percentage and successfully threw out 19 potential base stealers.
On the season, Sickles was one of the main arms for Capital on the mound as the junior right-hander threw 43.0 innings (second on the team). In those innings, Sickles appeared in 14 games with seven starts and finished the year with 48 hits, 37 runs (28 earned), 17 walks, and a team-best 38 strikeouts. Sickles is the first Capital pitcher since Joseph Borkey and Patrick Avellano in 2018 to be named All-Conference.
As a team, the Comets put together an improved season with a 10-28 record overall and a 3-15 mark in the OAC. The team's signature win of the season was their 14-6 win on the road at No. 4 ranked Baldwin Wallace.
