ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team concluded their 2023-24 campaign with a narrow 5-4 loss on the road at Mount Union on Tuesday evening. The Comets end their season with a 4-9 record overall.
The Comets took a 2-1 advantage after doubles as the duos of
Annika Hansen and
Rachel Smith and
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Jenny Rollins won their matches. Hansen/Smith won 8-4, while Wright-Lovell/Rollins won in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4).
The top doubles spot saw
Anna Fletcher and
Nicole Flock fall 8-2.
In singles play, Capital won two more points, but the top four singles spots went the way of Mount Union to seal the deal 5-4 in favor of the Purple Raiders.
Rachel Smith and
Jenny Rollins each won their matches. Smith beat No. 5 singles 7-6, 6-4 and Rollins won No. 6 singles 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 in a lengthy battle.
In the top four spots, Fletcher dropped the No. 1 match-up 6-0, 6-2; Flock lost second singles 7-6, 6-0; Hansen dropped third singles 7-6, 6-3; and Wright-Lovell lost the fourth spot 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
