Box Score 2 WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University tennis teams took on rival Otterbein on Friday in the Battle for the Oar. Unfortunately for the Comets, the oar will stay in Westerville this time around as both teams were shutout 9-0.
WOMEN (CAP 0-9 OTT)
The Comets got off to an unfortunate start in the doubles matches, dropping all three.
Nicole Flock and
Anna Fletcher would fall 8-4 in first doubles.
Annika Hansen and
Rachel Smith suffered a 8-1 loss in second doubles. And
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Jenny Rollins lost 8-0.
Capital suffered a similar fate in the singles matches, losing 6-0. Fletcher found herself on the wrong end of a 6-0, 6-0 result in first singles. Flock fell in second singles 6-1, 6-3. Hansen suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss in third singles. Wright-Lovell lost fourth singles by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Smith finished fifth singles with losing sets of 6-1, 6-2. Finally, Rollins almost forced a tiebreaker in sixth singles, but ultimately lost 6-1, 7-5.
MEN (CAP 0-9 OTT)
The woes for the Purple and White would continue in the men's matches, starting by being outscored 3-0 in doubles. First doubles went by way of 8-2 for
Spencer Surles and
Jackson Havel. Then
Nicholas Wines and
Alex Rowley ended up on the wrong side of an 8-1 result. Otterbein won third doubles by default.
Again, singles went much the same way as doubles, with Cap pulling up short in all six matches. Surles suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss in first singles. Next was Havel with a 6-0, 6-0 result in second singles. Wines' third singles match was the most competitive at 6-2, 6-3. Alex Rowly had losing sets of 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles. Finally,
Sam Williams was upended 6-0, 6-0 in fifth singles. Otterbein won sixth singles by default.

The men's team will be back in action tomorrow against Earlham and Indiana-East in Richmond, Indiana. The women's team takes on Earlham on Wednesday, also in Richmond.
