O’Connor, Perkins, Brewer, and Murphy Earn All-OAC Honors

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Thursday morning, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced All-OAC selections for the 2023-24 women's basketball season. Capital University boasted four all-conference honorees with junior guard Bri O'Connor and sophomore forward Samaree Perkins being named First Team and graduate guard Demi Brewer and junior guard Laney Murphy earning Honorable Mention. The quartet led the Comets to an 18-7 regular season record, finishing third in the OAC with a 13-5 conference record and making it to the tournament semifinals, finishing with a 19-8 overall mark.

O'Connor led the Comets and all of the OAC in total scoring with 426 points through 27 games, making her second in the conference in scoring average at 15.8 points per game. Additionally she finished second in the OAC for both assists (87) and steals (78), and fourth for free throw percentage (81.3%), also racking up 139 rebounds and 13 blocks. This is her second straight All-OAC First Team selection.

Perkins averaged a double-double throughout her 27 games played, leading the OAC in total rebounds at 272 and averaging 10.1 per game while scoring 349 total points for an average of 12.9 per game. She also had 29 assists, 21 steals, and seven blocks. This is her second straight season as an All-OAC honoree, being named Honorable Mention in addition to Freshman of the Year last year.

Brewer finished third in the OAC with 81 assists through 27 games. She scored 239 total points for an average of 8.9 per game while pulling down 130 rebounds and recording 37 steals and eight blocks. This is her first All-OAC selection.

Murphy made an OAC-leading 61 three pointers en route to breaking Capital's all-time career record of 173 set by Joey Hayes from 1995-99, she now has 193 in her career. She finished third on the team in scoring with 326 points through 27 games played for an average of 12.1 per game, also accounting for 97 rebounds, 32 steals, 23 assists, and five blocks. This is her second time being an All-OAC honoree after earning an Honorable Mention in addition to Freshman of the Year in 2021-22.
