Box Score 2 COLUMBUS/CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University tennis teams were faced with unfavorable results on opening weekend against Cedarville. Both teams were shutout, the men – on the road – 7-0, and the women – at home – 9-0. The two squads start the season 0-1 in dual matches.
On the women's side, the Comets were able to win a few games in the doubles matches, but ultimately ended up on the losing end of all three results.
Nicole Flock and
Anna Fletcher fared the best but were defeated 8-2.
Rachel Smith and
Annika Hansen – making her debut on the court for the Comets – lost 8-1 while
Jenny Rollins and
Kylee Fliter lost 8-0. Capital would go on to drop all six matches in singles:
Anna Fletcher (0-6, 0-6),
Nicole Flock (1-6, 1-6),
Annika Hansen (1-6, 0-6),
Rachel Smith (2-6, 1-6), Kylie Fliter (0-6, 2-6),
Ashlyn Edwards (0-6, 1-6).
On men's side, CU would walk away from doubles empty handed with Cedarville taking all three matches and the only point available.
Colin Welch and
Spencer Surles were defeated 6-1 while the duos of
Alex Rowley/
Thomas Secrist and
Jackson Havel/
Jesse Stevens lost 6-0. It was a similar story when it came to singles as Capital once again dropped all six matches:

Both Comet squads will be back in action over the coming weekend. The women will be at Franciscan on Saturday, and the men will compete at the Depauw Invite on Saturday and Sunday.
