WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team took part in the Battle for the Oar against rival Otterbein on Saturday, ultimately falling to the Cardinals by a score of 9-0. Capital's overall record now stands at 6-4 for the season and 1-1 in conference play.
The day got off to a slow start in the doubles matches with Otterbein taking all three. The duo of
Anna Fletcher and
Nicole Flock dropped first doubles 2-8, followed by the pairs of
Abigail Hornacek and
Kylee Fliter, and
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Jenny Rollins who were defeated by scores of 0-8 in second and third doubles.
The singles matches had a similar theme as Otterbein would go on to take the remaining six matches. Fletcher fell in first singles after 0-6, 0-6 results. Wright-Lovell battled to a winning 8-7 tiebreak (7-5) first set with her second set going the other way at 0-6. The match was decided with an unfavorable 3-10 tiebreaking thrid set. Flock and
Rachel Smith had identical set scores, dropping the first set 2-6 and the second 0-6. Rollins finished with a 2-6, 2-6 scoreline. Hornacek retired after playing to 2-5 in her first set.

Capital's next match will be played on Saturday, April 1st here in Columbus. A location is yet to be determined as the team will weigh their indoor and outdoor options. The Comets will host John Carroll that day.
