Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team took to the court at rival Otterbein on Friday, taking part in the first Battle for the Oar of the spring sports season, presented by Byers Airport Subaru. It wasn't the result the Comets were looking for, falling to the Cardinals 9-0.
The day started off slow with the three doubles matches all ending in the same fashion. The doubles duos of
Spencer Surles and
Brady Wink,
Alex Rowley and
Thomas Secrist, and
Jackson Havel and
Colin Welch would all wind up on the losing end of 8-2 score lines.
The Comets would unfortunately struggle to find success in the second session of the day as well, dropping the singles matches 6-0. Surles was defeated 0-6, 0-6 in first singles and
Jesse Stevens retired from the second singles match after playing to 0-6 and 0-1 results. Welch put a few wins together in his third singles match but would wind up with a 2-6, 1-6 loss. Havel (0-6, 1-6) and Wink (2-6, 0-6) were then defeated in fourth and fifth singles. The closest contest of the day came in sixth singles as
Aaron Askew battled to a 3-6, 3-6 finish.

The Comets will hit the court next on March 29 against Marietta, a match that was originally scheduled for March 17 but was postponed due to inclement weather. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
