Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Capital University men's tennis team took to the court for the first time this spring season, facing off with Calvin College. Unfortunately the Comets could not keep their dual-match win streak rolling, falling to the Knights, 9-0.
DOUBLES
The day started out slow in the doubles matches for the Comets, losing all three. Despite the imperfect result, Capital's duos were able to get some game wins under their belt as they begin to get into the spring season.
The first doubles duo consisting of
Leonardo Abreu and
Thomas Secrist fell 8-5.
Alex Stout and
Spencer Surles were the second doubles pair, dropping their match 8-3.
Finally,
Colin Welch and
Brady Wink made up the third combo, their match ending in 8-4 fashion.
SINGLES
Capital looked to get some points back in the singles matches but were ultimately outmatched 6-0.
First singles was
Leonardo Abreu with a (1-6, 1-6) result.
Alex Stout finished his second singles match at (1-6, 2-6).
Thomas Secrist took his third singles match to a third set, coming up just short (5-7, 6-4, 1-6).
Spencer Surles also played forth singles to a third set, but suffered the same result (0-6, 6-4, 2-6).
Jesse Stevens made an appearance in the fifth singles match, coming up unsuccessful (0-6, 6-1).
Finally,
Colin Welch played in sixth singles, ultimately retiring from the match (2-6, 1-4).
