WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Monday afternoon, Capital University's
Haley Moore was named as the women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week by the Ohio Athletic Conference. The award is presented by Midstream Lighting.
This is Moore's first weekly recognition by the conference and the first defensive recognition by a Comet since
Lauren White on March 30, 2021.
Last week, Moore helped lead Capital to a 1-0 win over a very good Hope College side. Entering the game, Hope had scored 3.2 goals per game and had thrust 21.8 shots per game toward the opposition's goal. In the Comets' win, Capital's defense, led by Moore, limited the Flying Dutchmen to just 10 shot attempts, only two of which tested
Lauren White in goal.
The shutout for the CU defense was their third of the season – a testament to the play of Moore and her fellow defenders in
Abby English,
Lexi Snider and the combination of
Aaliyah Brletic and
Elle Pelletier.
Capital now sits at 4-2 on the season and will next take the field on Wednesday, September 28th at Wittenberg University. The match will be the final non-conference match before the Comets begin OAC play at Otterbein on Saturday, October 1st.
