COLUMBUS, Ohio -- This past weekend, Capital University's baseball and softball programs came together to host a free clinic for the City of Columbus' youth.
Both programs work this annual event as part of the university's partnership with the City of Columbus. The free to the public clinic allowed the hundred-plus children in attendance to be introduced to the fundamentals of baseball and softball while gaining hands-on experience with several Capital University student-athletes and coaches.
"If we can inspire and motivate one of these children to follow the path of our student-athletes -- to play a sport while obtaining a world-class education at Capital -- or anywhere for that matter -- than that is a victory worth celebrating," said head baseball coach
Scott Manahan.
Head softball coach
Andrea Nagy said "What a great day we had with the City of Columbus this past weekend. Seeing how our student-athletes embraced the children and how happy the children were truly made the day worthwhile."
This annual event with the baseball and softball programs is just beginning to scrape the surface of what's to come from Capital Athletics out in the community. Recently appointed Director of Athletics,
Dr. Darrell Bailey Sr. has a clear mission to engage with our surrounding community. Dr. Bailey and the coaching staffs of all Capital sports teams are working hand-in-hand to create more opportunities for Capital student-athletes to submerge themselves in the Columbus community throughout the year. To keep up-to-date on all these student-athletes are doing, more of these opportunities will be highlighted on our website as they take place.
