NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – On Thursday Morning, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced the selections of three Capital University student-athletes to their Great Lakes All-Region teams.
Graduate student
Brooke Delara, senior
Molly Searles, and freshman
Grace Osborn were all tabbed as First Team honorees. Delara was a 2021 second team All-Region player, while both Searles and Osborn have won their first regional accolade.
The three selections mark the third time in program history three players have been named All-Region in the same season, but it is the first time in which all three players have been selected as First Team winners.
Delara, the 2022 OAC Midfielder of the Year, finished her final season at Capital with 79 goals and 88 assists in 21 games, good for 167 points. Her single-season assist and point totals are both new Capital records, while her goal total sits third all-time in Capital history behind
Grace Osborn and
Luci Kanowsky this season. In addition to her offensive prowess, Delara scooped up 43 ground balls, caused 32 turnovers, and reeled in 37 draw controls.
Searles, the 2022 OAC Co-Defender of the Year, finished the 2022 season with two goals, 53 ground balls, 37 caused turnovers, and five draw controls. Her 53 ground balls sit her eighth all-time for single-season pick-ups, while her 37 caused turnovers is good for fourth all-time at Capital in a single campaign. She helped lead a defense that held opponents to a 7.95 goals against average and an 82.1% successful clear rate.
Osborn, the 2022 OAC Rookie of the Year, ended her first collegiate season with 126 goals and 30 assists, good for 156 points. Her goal total is good for the most in a single season in program history. Her assists are good for seventh all-time, and her point total is the second most, behind Delara's 167 this season. Elsewhere on the field, Osborn led the team in ground balls (69), caused turnovers (45) and draw controls (134). Her ground ball number is good for second all-time, her caused turnover number is second most all-time, and her draw control total is a new program record for single-season marks.
This trio of Comets helped the team to a history-making 2022 season in which they finished as OAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions with a 20-1 record. Their season concluded in the NCAA Second Round with a loss to No. 20 University of Chicago.
