Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Falls to ONU at Home

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team were defeated at home on Wednesday night by Ohio Northern, falling 14-7.

With the result, Capital falls to 4-9 overall and 0-5 in the OAC, while ONU improves to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The Polar Bears opened the game through the first quarter by opening up a 3-0 lead. The momentum was halted by a free position goal from Eleanor Walsh at the 12:04 mark of the second quarter.

Despite that goal by Walsh, ONU scored the game's next three goals to make it 6-1. Two goals from Capital via Heather Stoner and Mia Cruz did bring the halftime score to 6-3, leaving all to play for into the second half.

In the third quarter both teams traded goals with the period ending with ONU holding a 11-6 lead. The three Capital goals in the period all came off the stick of Leah Leno

To start the fourth quarter, Capital got another goal, this time coming via a goal by Heather Stoner off an assist by Grace Wolfe making it 11-7.

Unfortunately that would be all the Comets could muster, as the Polar Bears would add three more goals to put the game out of reach and to its eventual final of 14-7.

Leah Leno would lead things offensively for Capital, finishing her day with three goals and an assist.

Brooke Burchfield gave it her all to keep the Comets in the game, finishing with a career high 22 saves.  Her effort placed her just two saves shy of the single-game program record.
