WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Highlighted by a strong effort in the javelin throw, the Capital University track and field teams were in action at the Otterbein Twilight Meet on Friday evening.
Despite good marks all around, the men's javelin throw saw all three competitors in the field finish in the top-8 and improve, or crack, the program Top-10 list in the event. Those three competitors included
Andy Fullmer,
Hayden Shaffer, and
Jason McColl.
Additionally impressive was
Anya Vanasdale running a new personal best and fourth best in Capital history in the 1500 meter run.
Below is a summary of the top performances from the day:
Men's Javelin:
Andy Fullmer led the way in the javelin toss, taking first place overall with a throw of 52.92 meters – a mark that moves him up to third all-time in Capital history. Also throwing for Capital in the event were
Hayden Shaffer and
Jason McColl. The duo finished seventh and eighth overall. Shaffer's toss of 42.53 meters is good for ninth all-time in Cap history. McColl's throw of 41.91 meters is the new 10th best in program history.
Women's 1500 Meter Run:
Anya Vanasdale continued to improve her marks in the distance events – something she's done all year. This time in the 1500 meter run, Vanasdale put forth a time of 4:57.22 – a time good enough for fourth best in Capital history and an eight second personal improvement.
Men's Pole Vault:
Zion Park finished tied for first in the pole vault, clearing the bar at a height of 4.20 meters.
Women's Pole Vault:
Bella McCarty placed fifth with a vault of 2.75 meters.
Women's Javelin:
Alexa Poling threw the javelin a distance of 24.11 meters, good for eighth overall in the event.
Women's Shot Put: Poling finished sixth in the shot with her furthest toss of 10.55 meters.
Grace Heckenlively was ninth overall with a throw of 10.24 meters. Deivon McCullough rounded it out with a throw of 9.33 meters.
Men's Shot Put:
Jonathan Kirk and
Hayden Shaffer finished eighth and ninth in the shot put. Kirk's furthest toss was 12.64 meters, while Shaffer was just behind with a throw of 12.35 meters.
Women's Long Jump:
Cece Samuels jumped a mark of 4.54 meters, good for 15th.
Hanna Bauer was just behind in 17th with a jump of 4.22 meters.
Men's Long Jump:
Ethan Barton was the lone competitor in the event, placing 11th with a jump of 5.85 meters.
Women's 4x100 Meter Relay: The quartet of Bauer, Samuels,
Natashia Amoako, and
Larissa Agbor-Nkongho placed fourth with a time of 51.34 seconds.
Men's 4x100 Meter Relay: Fullmer,
Ishmael Young,
Kelly Wilson II, and
Daniel Hiser ran a time of 43.64 seconds, good for fourth.
Men's 1500 Meter Run:
Donovan Slattery placed eighth overall with a run of 4:10.50.
Women's 800 Meter Run:
Alexa Daley led a trio of Comets in the 800 with a time of 2:28.61.
Allison Costanzo was just behind with 2:36.17.
Grace Lockard rounded out Cap's showing with a time of 2:44.84.
Men's 800 Meter Run: Slattery paced three Comets in the event with a time of 2:06.63.
Bobby Cole was just two seconds back with 2:08.05.
Jason McColl rounded it out with a time of 2:11.65.
Men's 400 Meter Hurdles:
Andy Fullmer placed seventh with a strong time of 59.60 seconds.
Women's 100 Meter Dash:
Natashia Amoako placed 17th with a time of 13.78 seconds.
Men's 100 Meter Dash: Jonathan Brown returned to action for the first time since the indoor season, by running a 100 dash time of 11.71 seconds.
Ethan Barton (11.82 seconds) and
Brandon Rex (12.09 seconds) also raced in the event.
Women's 200 Meter Dash:
Cece Samuels clocked a time of 27.73 seconds. Amoako was just two seconds back with a time of 29.24 seconds.
Men's 200 Meter Dash: Brown (23.60 seconds), Rex (24.49 seconds), and Barton (24.54 seconds) finished up the sprint events for Cap.
Men's Discus:
Hayden Shaffer finished ninth overall with a throw of 38.96 meters.
Jonathan Kirk was 16th overall with his furthest throw registering 32.64 meters.
Men's 4x400 Meter Relay: Capital fielded two foursomes in the 4x400 meter relay, with the teams finishing fourth and 12th, respectively. The A team clocked a time of 3:30.42 and was composed of Dan McCormack,
Ishmael Young,
Daniel Hiser, and
Kelly Wilson II. The B team included
Donovan Slattery,
Sam Siedel,
Bobby Cole, and
Jason McColl and registered a time of 3:44.64.

Capital's next competition will take place on Friday, April 29th at the Ashland Alumni Open. This will serve as Cap's final tune-up prior to the OAC Outdoor Championships on May 5th and 6th.
