GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team opened up the spring outdoor season on Saturday by competing at the Denison Lid Lifter. There, the Comets put forth some strong season-opening marks as they stretched their legs in outdoor competition for the first time this season.
MEN
100-meter dash:
Demetre Wheeler placed second in 10.98 seconds.
Mershaud Parker was third in 10.99 seconds, while
Leighton Kordack was fifth in a time of 11.24 seconds.
200-meter dash:
Neko Henry won the event in a time of 22.29 seconds.
Trevor Estep placed 26th in 25.21 seconds.
400-meter dash:
Cheik Souare placed 21st in a time of 57.00 seconds.
800-meter run:
Henry Taylor placed 15th in a time of 2:05.19.
1,500-meter run:
Reef Murray placed 14th in a time of 4:21.68.
3,000-meter steeplechase:
Mikey Arnone placed sixth overall in the steeplechase with a time of 9:50.52.
Aiden Mahony was 12th in a time of 10:25.83.
5,000-meter run:
Ridwan Aliawl placed sixth overall in a time of 15:55.74.
Dimetrius Floyd was 10th overall in a time of 16:07.80.
Aaron McNutt placed 18th in 16:57.21.
4x100-meter relay: The quartet of
Cheik Souare,
Demetre Wheeler,
Mershaud Parker, and
Leighton Kordack ran a time of 42.64 seconds to win the event.
4x400-meter relay: The group of Wheeler, Parker, Kordack and Estep placed second in a time of 3:31.24
Discus:
Nolan Piper placed fifth with a best mark of 42.02 meters.

Shot Put:
Nolan Piper placed fourth with a toss of 13.78 meters.
WOMEN
100-meter dash:
Jaleea Harvey placed third in a time of 13.10 seconds.
Larae Portis was sixth in a time of 14.37 seconds.
200-meter dash:
Isabella Johnson placed sixth in a time of 27.06 seconds.
Juli Sprague was 10th in 28.01 seconds, followed by
Jersie Papacostas in 12th (28.44s) and
Jaylin Bullock in 17th (30.16s).
400-meter hurdles:
Maria Da Cunha placed second in a time of 1:08.27.
800-meter run:
Chloe Zarlino ran a time of 2:53.14 to place 22nd.
1,500-meter run:
Jenavieve Vasquez ran a time of 5:30.14 to place 14th.
4x400-meter relay: The group of
Isabella Johnson,
Maria Da Cunha,
Jaleea Harvey and
Juli Sprague placed second in 4:10.30.
Pole Vault:
Claire Robinson tied for first, clearing the bar at 3.43 meters. That height registered as the second highest in program history.
Alex Wilkinson was tied for fourth with a height of 3.28 meters – a mark that moves her up to fourth all-time in program history.
High Jump:
Brooklyn Herbert placed fifth, clearing the bar at 1.51 meters. The height set a new program all-time mark as the 10th best in program history.
Long Jump:
Larae Portis placed ninth with a distance of 4.36 meters.
Discus:
Mia Sanchez placed eighth with a top throw of 32.19 meters.
Lillian Baker was 18th with a mark of 29.24 meters.
Hammer Throw: Sanchez placed 15th with a toss of 31.88 meters.
