DELAWARE, Ohio – On Saturday, the Capital University track and field teams spiked up at Ohio Wesleyan University's Marv Frye Invitational despite cold temperatures and a snowy, rainy mix of precipitation falling throughout the day.
Capital's student-athletes competed in several events outside of their main disciplines, with many of the runners mixing up their main distances and a handful of the field athletes testing the waters in different events as well.
Despite competing outside of their norms, Capital still managed to hold their own and check another box in their improvement as a program.
Below is a summary of the top performances from the day:
Men's Pole Vault: Zion Park placed in a tie for second in the pole vault with his best vault registering 4.30 meters. He tied with Cooper Berry of OWU and was level for the best mark of the day from OWU's Joey Verdugo. Verdugo took first because he cleared the bar on his first attempt and Park and Berry cleared it on their second try.
Men's High Jump: Daniel McCormack led a trio of Comets to clear the bar in high jump. He finished eighth overall with his best leap marking 1.73 meters.
Andy Fullmer placed 12th with a jump of 1.65 meters.
Zion Park also jumped the bar at 1.65 meters, but much like the pole vault finished a few places back because it took him an extra attempt to clear.
Men's Shot Put: Jonathan Kirk finished eighth overall, throwing his best shot at 13.19 meters.
Men's 5,000 Meter Run: Ben Loeper crossed the line seventh after running a time of 15:51.97 in the longest race of the day.
