Box Score SHERMAN, Texas – The Capital University baseball team played Eureka College from Illinois in a neutral site contest hosted by Austin College on Monday afternoon. Eureka emerged with a narrow 9-8 win in the end.
Capital has now dropped four in a row and sits 2-4 on the season.
At the dish,
Logan White had a powerful day, collecting two hits in the form of a double and triple.
Capital's
Bryant Caporale started on the mound and pitched the first four innings of action during which he surrendered three runs and struck out four.
Colin Boldin then took the bump for two innings where he conceded five runs and struck out two. The final two innings were shared by
Aaron Olech,
Garrett Montgomery and
Brennon Newell. Montgomery would ultimately be credited with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets got behind in the bottom of the first as Eureka's Braden Cox hit a two-out, two-run home run, pushing them out front early.
The Red Devils got back on the board in the bottom of the second, extending their lead to 3-0.
In the top of the third, Cap got things going at the plate.
Cole Callaghan singled, before scoring on
Logan White's RBI triple. White then scored when
CJ Rockwell singled to bring the score to 3-2.
Capital continued their momentum from the third as they rolled into the fourth.
Matt Anthony led off with a single and advanced on
Cade Anderson's walk.
Brendan Stinson hit an RBI single that scored Anthony.
Cole Callaghan followed it up with an RBI single of his own that scored Anderson. Stinson scored on a ground out by
CJ Rockwell.
Ryne McKinney then walked, putting runners on the corners.
EJ Santana then reached on an error by the Eureka third baseman that enabled Callaghan to score the fourth run of the inning.
After Capital's run of scoring through the third and fourth innings, Eureka battled back, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth, bringing them within 6-5.
The top of the sixth provided two more runs to the Comets as
Cole Callaghan and
Logan White each scored again, putting Capital ahead 8-5. Callaghan and White hit back-to-back doubles before the latter scored on another Eureka error.
Eureka's Braden Cox then again put his mark on the game, jacking his second homer of the game, leveling the score at 8-8 in the bottom half of the sixth. Eventually, the Red Devils would find a run in the bottom of the ninth, one that would prove to be the winner for Eureka.

Capital will return to the University of Dallas tomorrow afternoon for a 2 p.m. CST first pitch (3 p.m. EST).
