Box Score SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team kept up their winning momentum on Sunday afternoon with a tough 5-2 win at Lourdes University.

The win was Capital's second in a row and sets the team's record forward to 5-7 overall.

Playing at an NAIA opponent, the match followed NAIA rules with the all three doubles matches counting as just one team point (i.e. best two-out-of-three takes the doubles point).

Coming up in the clutch this afternoon were the likes of Spencer Surles, Colin Welch and Jesse Stevens. The three of them won both their doubles and singles matches, essentially clinching the win for the team. Aaron Askew was also credited with a win in both disciplines, each of which came via a default. Leonardo Abreu and Alex Stout both competed hard against a very toughh top-two for Lourdes, surrendering both matches to the hosts' Division I transfers.

"This is a huge win for our program," said head coach Cody Hurley. "We battled from start to finish and finally prevailed in the tight match. This was the confidence boost we needed heading into conference play next weekend."

The Comets took to singles action first, where the Comets clinched the match, winning four of the match-ups. Along with Askew's forfeit win, Surles, Welch and Stevens won their bouts in straight sets. Surles and Welch needed one set to go to tiebreaker points, but ultimately the point fell in favor of the Comets. Stevens cruised his way to a dominant win at fifth singles.

Welch's battle at fourth singles proved crucial in the match scoring. Down 5-6 in the second set, Welch showed incredible mental toughness and took 11 out of the remaining 14 points to win the set and put Cap in the lead 3-2.

With the match win already secured, Capital took the team point at doubles as well. Askew and Stevens combined for a default win, while Surles and Welch blew past the Grey Wolves' duo 8-3.
