MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On Friday, the Capital University men's and women's track and field teams began their 2022 outdoor season at the Myrtle Beach College Challenge, hosted at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
For being the start of the outdoor calendar, the team performed well all-around and saw recently minted indoor All-Region competitor
Andy Fullmer solidify his name on the All-Time top-10 list in the javelin throw. Additionally,
Bella McCarty helped the women's side garner their first team points in the pole vault.
Zion Park kept the quality pole vaulting going on day two with a second place finish in the event.
Below is a summary of day two action:
Men's Discus:
Hayden Shaffer tossed the disc 37.78 meters, claiming 10th overall in the event. Jon Kirk also threw in the event, registering his best throw at 31.24 meters.
Women's Shot Put:
Alexa Poling (9.70 meters) and
Grace Heckenlively (9.57 meters) finished 19th and 20th overall, while Deivon McCullough also competed, with her best throw marking 8.40 meters.
Men's Pole Vault:
Zion Park finished second overall in the event, clearing the bar at 3.96 meters. His vault earned Capital eight team points.
Men's 1500 Meter Run:
Ben Loeper raced his way to 21st overall with a time of 4:27.16.
Below is a summary of the top performances of the first day:
Men's Javelin:
Andy Fullmer finished 13th overall and further solidified his place as eighth best in Capital history, with a new personal best throw of 42.39 meters in the javelin toss. His previous best of 41.25 meters already had him in eighth on the all-time list. He is now just two meters off from the seventh best throw.
Men's 100 Meter Dash:
Daniel Hiser finished eighth in the prelims, qualifying him for the final heat in the event. His prelim time registered 11.36 seconds – a new PR in the event.
Ishmael Young was not far back from Hiser, finishing 12th in the prelims with a time of 11.54 seconds.
Ethan Barton (12.11 seconds),
Kelly Wilson II (12.20 seconds), and
Brandon Rex (12.39 seconds) also competed in the event.
Women's Pole Vault:
Bella McCarty finished seventh overall, clearing the bar at 2.75 meters. She earned two team points in the event with the leap.
Women's Hammer:
Alexa Poling finished 14th overall with her best toss marking 38.76 meters.
Women's 100 Meter Dash:
Larissa Agbor-Nkongho paced a group of five Comets in the 100 meter dash – all of whom ran new personal bests. She finished 12th overall in 13.28 seconds.
Hanna Bauer was 19th with a time of 13.80 seconds.
Cece Samuels was 24th in 14.06 seconds.
Olivia Humes placed 29th in a fashion of 14.27 seconds.
Natashia Amoako was right on Olivia's heels as she placed 30th with a time of 14.33 seconds.
Women's 800 Meter Run:
Grace Lockard set a new personal best in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:57.74.
Men's 110 Meter Hurdles:
Andy Fullmer finished 17th in a time of 17.38 seconds.
Men's 4x800 Meter Relay: The foursome pairing of
Donovan Slattery,
Jason McColl,
Aidan Cunningham and
Bobby Cole placed 12th in the event, running a time of 8:43.69.
Women's 5,000 Meter Run:
Heather Fryman -- who was dubbed the best golf swing on the team recently -- finished the race with a time of 22:38.78, setting a new personal best by 20 seconds.
Men's 5,000 Meter Run:
Ben Loeper clocked a time of 15:50.48, finishing 12th overall.
