Baseball to Play Two OAC Doubleheaders at Huntington Park

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fresh off of beginning the 2022 campaign this past weekend with a trio of games at West Virginia Tech, head coach Scott Manahan announced Tuesday morning that Capital University Baseball will play two home conference doubleheaders in the heart of downtown Columbus at Huntington Park.

The home of the Minor League Baseball's Columbus Clippers – AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians – Huntington Park is nestled in downtown Columbus, Ohio in the Arena District. In addition to Huntington Park, the Arena District is home to Nationwide Arena (Columbus Blue Jackets), Lower.com Field (Columbus Crew), and Express Live (concert venue) as well as several restaurants, housing complexes and office spaces.

"This is an incredible opportunity for our players," said Manahan. "To play at one of the nation's top minor league stadiums is a privilege for us, and I know the players will remember this experience for years to come. We are indeed grateful to Mr. Ken Schnacke and the Columbus Clippers organization for allowing our players, and Capital University, to have this experience."

Capital will first match-up with Muskingum University at the minor league ballpark on Wednesday, April 20th. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. that day, with game two following at approximately 4 p.m.

The Comets will then conclude their regular season on Senior Day back at Huntington Park with a doubleheader on Thursday, May 5th as Heidelberg University makes the trip down from Tiffin. First pitch that day will again be 1 p.m. with game two beginning at approximately 4 p.m.

"What a way to close out my collegiate career," said senior Kurt Maxwell. "My final baseball games at Huntington Park, followed by commencement just a couple of days later, wow!"

"We have been through a lot over the years, so to see our careers culminate like this, playing at Huntington Park … it couldn't be better," said fellow senior Bryant Caporale. "Capital baseball is clearly moving in the right direction."

Any information concerning ticketing, parking, related events, etc. will be posted to athletics.capital.edu should it become available.
