DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University track and field teams competed on Friday evening at the OWU Open, hosted across town at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Highlighting the day for the Comets were the men's 60 meter dash, where
Daniel Hiser and
Ishmael Young stake their claim on third and fourth fastest runners in Capital program history. On the women's side, first place finishes by
Alexa Poling (shot put),
Anya Vanasdale (one mile), and the 4x400 meter relay were the highlights.
Below is a summary of the top performances from the evening:
Men's 60 Meter Dash:
Daniel Hiser ran a new personal-best enroute to a fourth place finish with a time of 7.10 seconds. His time was also good enough to break a tie for the third best all-time 60 meter dash in program history. Previously, Hiser was tied for third with a time of 7.17 seconds.
Ishmael Young was just on the heels of Hiser, placing sixth with a time of 7.13 seconds – sitting him fourth overall on the all-time list at Capital.
Men's 400 Meter Dash:
Nick Stuck placed seventh overall with a new PR time of 56.50 seconds.
Men's 800 Meter Run:
Donovan Slattery narrowly missed out on adding his name to another top-10 list in Capital history by just .17 seconds. Slattery finished fourth and ran a time of 2:06.42. Also running the event for Capital were
Aidan Cunningham (2:13.00),
Bobby Cole (2:14.27), and
Jason McColl (2:18.81).
Men's One Mile:
Sam Siedel and Zack Brown both competed in the one mile, and both had important races, personally. Siedel clocked a time of 4:48.35, marking his first sub-4:50 time in his career. Brown ran a time of 4:57.44 – his first sub-5:00 mile in over two years.
Men's 60 Meter Hurdles:
Andy Fullmer hurdled his way to a second overall finish with a time of 9.03 seconds – just .03 seconds off the top spot.
Men's Pole Vault:
Zion Park placed third overall in the pole vault, with his best jump registering 4.25 meters. Fullmer also competed in the event, jumping a best mark of 3.65 meters – placing him in a tie for sixth.
Men's Long Jump:
Ethan Barton lept his way to seventh overall. His best jump registered 5.58 meters.
Men's Shot Put:
Hayden Shaffer threw the shot a distance of 12.65 meters, placing him third overall.
Men's 4x400 Meter Relay: Capital put forth two teams in the 4x400 relay. The A team consisted of
Donovan Slattery,
Sam Siedel,
Bobby Cole, and
Jason McColl. The B team was composed of
Daniel Hiser,
Ishmael Young,
Daniel McCormack, and
Andy Fullmer. The 'B' quartet won the race in a time of 3:39.07, while the 'A' grouping placed third in a time of 3:49.55.
Women's 60 Meter Dash:
Natashia Amoako and
Cece Samuels placed second and third in the fastest race of the day. Amoako clocked a time of 8.60 seconds, while Samuels was just behind with a 8.62 second time.
Women's 200 Meter Dash: Amoako and Samuels were at it again in the 200 dash, this time finishing fifth and sixth. Amoako ran a time of 29.68 seconds, while Samuels was sixth-best with 29.77 seconds.
Women's 400 Meter Dash:
Hanna Bauer and
Olivia Humes placed third and fourth, respectively in the 400 meter dash. Bauers ran a time of 1:07.81, while Humes clocked in at 1:08.95. Humes crushed her personal best by nearly four seconds in the event.
Women's 800 Meter Run:
Alexa Daley led a quartet of Comets across the line, placing second in the 800 with a time of 2:33.65.
Allison Costanzo was next in line, placing fourth in a time of 2:44.40.
Elizabeth Mak was seventh with a time of 2:55.80.
Grace Lockard rounded out the placing ninth with a time of 3:05.79. Costanzo shaved 10 seconds off her previous best in the event, while Lockard dropped seven seconds off her PR time.
Women's One Mile:
Anya Vanasdale won the one mile in a time of 5:36.59 – nearly four seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Women's Pole Vault:
Bella McCarty placed third with a best jump of 2.60 meters.
Women's Long Jump:
Olivia Humes (4.50 meters),
Cece Samuels (4.41 meters), and
Hanna Bauer (4.35 meters) placed second, fourth, and fifth in the long jump.
Women's Shot Put:
Alexa Poling led a trio of Comet throwers in the shot put, winning the event with a top throw of 11.10 meters.
Grace Heckenlively saw her second action of the season, placing third with her best throw registering 9.71 meters. Deivon McCullough rounded out the placements for Cap with a fifth place finish – throwing the shot 9.37 meters.
Women's 4x400 Meter Relay: The quartet of Allison Costanto,
Elizabeth Mak,
Grace Lockard, and
Alexa Daley combined to finish first in the event with a time of 4:36.44.
UP NEXT
Capital will send a small contingent of competitors to the All-Ohio Championships tomorrow, but the whole team will next be in action on Friday, February 18th at the Flag City Open at the University of Findlay.
