COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team evened their record on the year at 1-1 after a decisive 8-1 defeat at home to Ohio Northern University.
Kelli Wright-Lovell battled hard at second singles to earn the Crusaders lone win of the day. A lengthy first set saw Wright-Lovell come away with the tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3). Wright-Lovell closed it out in the second set with a 6-2 score.
Elsewhere in singles,
Rachel Smith (6-1, 6-0),
Josie Nichols (6-3, 6-1),
Amy Wright-Lovell (6-0, 6-2), and
Karen Kanke (6-0, 6-1) were all upended by the Polar Bear opposition.
In doubles action the tandem of
Maggie Haas and
Rachel Smith came out with a tough 8-4 loss against Ola Latala and Olivia Kesner. Both the second doubles (
Kelli Wright-Lovell/
Josie Nichols) and third doubles (
Karen Kanke/
Amy Wright-Lovell) pairings were ousted by 8-1 scores.
The Crusaders will be back on the courts across town at Otterbein University on Saturday, April 10th. The time for first serve has yet to be determined.
