CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- On Friday afternoon, the Capital University women's tennis team eased their way to a 9-0 win at OAC opponent Muskingum University. The match was not counted toward OAC play, however.
The Comets got out of the gates early, sweeping the doubles matches. Third doubles finished first, as the pair of
Maria Pickerill and
Abigail Hornacek defeated the Muskies pair by a score of 8-2. At second doubles,
Rachel Smith and
Karen Kanke worked their way past the Muskingum duo by a margin of 8-6. Finally, at first doubles,
Josie Nichols and
Nicole Flock needed extra time to defeat the Muskie pairing by a score of 9-7.
Much like the doubles matches, Capital made impressive work through the Muskingum lineup en route to a clean sweep of the points.
Flock defeated Grace Andrews 6-1, 6-1 at first singles. Nichols took care of Evelyn Pauquett at third singles 6-2, 6-0. Kanke eased through fourth singles, defeating Mandy Plaskett by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Hayley Singleton played sixth singles and beat Emma Bachman by scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Rachel Smith (second singles) and
Kylee Fliter (fifth singles) both needed a third set, but they were on the upper hand of these matches as well. Smith won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 against Scarlett Martell. Fliter took her match 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 over Jane Boyer.
The sweep was Capital's second 9-0 scoreline of the fall after they defeated Miami Middletown by the same margin in mid-September. The team now boasts a 2-1 record. The match against the Muskies was a non-conference one. The two teams will square off in OAC action in the spring.
Capital will await their next match until the spring season as this match served as the conclusion to the fall campaign.
