COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team (7-4) played a doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan and it was a tale of two games as the Crusaders claimed game one by a 13-7 margin while the Battling Bishops claimed the second 8-2.

Game One

  • Capital was first on the board in the early game, as Connor Richardson, Brandon Barnette and Logan White worked the bases loaded, setting the table for Drew Ellis who singled to right to knock Richardson in.
  • The real damage was done in the third inning as the Crusaders capitalized on a flurry of Battling Bishops errors to take a commanding lead.
  • Shane Lyons started off the frame, reaching on a fielding error, before Richardson singled.
  • Barnette then reached on an error to load the bases for Konnor Black who drove in two with a single to center.
  • CJ Rockwell reached on another error to again load the bases, this time White singled up the middle to tally two more runs for Capital, bringing the score to 5-0.
  • Drew Ellis reached on the fourth Ohio Wesleyan error of the inning, bringing Rockwell around to score.
  • A Beau Otto groundout and Shane Lyons double put another two runs on the board, increasing the lead to 9-0 through just three innings.
  • The Battling Bishops strung together a series of hits to cut into the Capital lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of  the fourth to get on the board.
  • In the fifth inning, the Crusaders got more at bats with the bases loaded as Otto and Lyons walked and grounded out, with a little bit of OWU help, to hang another crooked number on the board and push the lead to 12-2.
  • Ohio Wesleyan attempted to mount a comeback in both the fifth and eighth innings but the Capital staff was able to keep the Bishops in check, posting a final of 13-7.

GAME TWO

  • The script was flipped in the late game as the Battling Bishops plated five runs in the third inning to take a lead they would ride out until the end.
  • In the fifth frame, Black singled and advanced to third on an Ellis single. Cole Callaghan drove in Capital's first run, singling to score Callaghan and put the Crusaders on the board.
  • The Battling Bishops would score three more times in the contest, with Capital scoring once more to bring the final score to 8-2.

THE SCOREBOOK
